The RealSAM phone is designed to make your digital life easier, turning complex menus into simple conversation. If you struggle with small buttons or icons, or complicated touch screens, this device gives you back control – you simply tap and talk.
But like any voice system, knowing the best way to phrase your request makes all the difference. Our support team has pulled together the 10 crucial commands and insider tips that will ensure your experience is always smooth, accurate, and completely stress-free.
How to Talk to RealSAM Successfully
Before we dive into the commands, you must know our two most important rules for success:
-
Always Say ‘Number X’: When the phone gives you a list of options – for example, when asking you to choose between ‘John Home’ (1) and ‘John Mobile’ (2) – you must reply with the word ‘Number’ before the digit. Saying just “1” or “2” can often be misheard. You should always reply with ‘Number 2′.
-
Say More, Not Less: Our voice control system doesn’t do well with very short words. Using a longer, more natural phrase works best. For example, ‘Call John Smith’ is more reliable than just ‘Call John’.
And a quick escape route: if you ever get lost, interrupted, or want to start a process over, just tap the Talk button and say ‘Cancel’.

Essential Communication Commands
These commands will help you stay connected easily with friends and family.
1. Make a Call: It’s as simple as asking: ‘Call Sarah’ or ‘Call 07700 800 900′.
-
Tip: You don’t need to worry about losing your contacts. Unlike standard phones, RealSAM contacts are stored in the cloud. If your phone is lost or damaged, we can restore everything instantly.
2. Send a Message: Dictate your entire message in one go, avoiding frustrating typing or struggling with a touchscreen: ‘Send a message to John: I’ll be home for tea at five’.
3. Read the Newest Message: Messages can sometimes be confusing for new customers, as the phone first takes you to a headline section. To quickly get to your newest text, follow this exact sequence: Tap and say ‘Messages’, then immediately tap again as it’s speaking and say ‘Number 1′. This takes you straight to the message, and you can then reply with ‘Reply’ or ‘Delete’.
-
Master Entertainment Commands
This is where using the correct word is vital. To access the enormous library of books, magazines, news, radio, and podcasts, you must start your command with the correct verb.
4. Finding Audiobooks: Access over 40,000 titles from the RNIB library and more. The keyword is ‘Find’.
-
Say: ‘Find books by Agatha Christie’
5. Reading the Daily News: Get today’s paper instantly, whether you want a national broadsheet or a local title. The keyword is ‘Read’.
-
Say: ‘Read me The Guardian’
6. Listening to Live Radio: Whether you’re looking for BBC Radio 1 or a local station, the keyword is ‘Listen to’.
-
Say: ‘Listen to BBC Radio 1′
7. Playing a Podcast: Catch up on your favourite shows or find something new to listen to. The keyword is ‘Play’.
-
Say: ‘Play The Archers’
8. Controlling Playback: Once your media is playing, you can navigate easily without lifting a finger.
-
Say: ‘Jump forward 5′ or ‘Go back 10′
-
Independence and Assistance
These features offer instant support, peace of mind, and help with daily tasks.
9. Get Sighted Assistance: This is the free, vital service that connects you to a sighted volunteer via video. Just say ‘Be My Eyes‘.
-
Quick Setup Note: We register you automatically, but you must accept the terms first. Say ‘Be My Eyes’, then interrupt the audio dialogue by saying ‘Number 4′ and then ‘Yes’. You’ll be ready to connect within 24 hours.
10. Use the Digital Magnifier: Turn your phone’s camera into an AI-powered reader. The command is ‘Open Magnifier’.
-
Once it’s open, say ‘Take Picture’ to freeze the text, and then ask: ‘Read’, ‘Describe’, or ‘What is this?’ If it’s too dark, just say ‘Turn on Flash’.
Final Tip: We’re Here to Simplify
We understand that initial setup can feel like a lot, but remember that the phone is designed to be easily simplified. If anything feels too complicated – even if it’s just the choice of words being offered – we can usually make some adjustments remotely.
Simply tap and say ‘Call Support’, ‘Call Helpline’, or ‘Call RealSAM’. We are ready and happy to help you Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
