Our RealSAM BookClub March BookClub pick is Ten-Second Staircase by Christopher Fowler — a gripping mystery that blends classic detective storytelling with the eerie atmosphere of London’s past.
This month’s reading announcement is arriving slightly later than usual. In February, we hosted our live online BookClub discussion for All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, which took place later in the month than our normal schedule. Because of this, our March discussion timeline has shifted slightly.
Rather than opening the conversation on the 25th, the RealSAM BookClub March discussion will open on the 31st of March. This gives everyone a little extra time to explore the book and join the conversation.
March BookClub Pick: Ten-Second Staircase
Our March BookClub pick is Ten-Second Staircase, a new addition to the RNIB Talking Books Library and the fourth novel in the popular Bryant & May detective series.
Set in London, the novel follows the Peculiar Crimes Unit — a small investigative team that specialises in strange and seemingly impossible cases.
When a woman falls to her death from the staircase of a London theatre, the incident initially appears to be a suicide. But detectives Arthur Bryant and John May quickly begin to suspect something far more unsettling.
As more mysterious deaths occur, the investigation leads the team deep into London’s hidden history — where urban legends, folklore, and forgotten corners of the city begin to blur with reality.
The result is a detective story that feels both classic and unusual: part crime investigation, part exploration of the strange stories that cities carry with them.
You can learn more about the novel on the publisher’s page here.

Why We Read Together
Book clubs are about more than simply finishing a book.
They create a shared space for reflection, conversation, and curiosity. Each month we explore a new story together — sometimes a classic, sometimes something unexpected.
Our RealSAM BookClub monthly read is chosen to spark discussion and bring readers together around stories that invite conversation.
We’re looking forward to hearing what you think of Ten-Second Staircase when the discussion opens on 31 March.
Happy reading!
