Find My Pocket?

Following on from last week’s blog about the ‘dangerous’ new Bookshelf feature on my Pocket, I feel the need to make a public service announcement!

I suspect that I am far from the only one to be feeding a serious audiobook habit through my Pocket and experiencing the side-effects of having a loaded Bookshelf and several titles on the go at once.

It’s easy enough to find the last book you were listening to by asking Pocket to ‘Find Recent Books’. The title will be number one on the list and simply saying ‘Play’ will return you to your last reading position. And, likewise, asking Pocket to ‘Find Bookshelf’ will give you a list of the titles you have selected, most recent first.

But, if like me, you have got carried away and now have dozens of titles on your Bookshelf, you might be wasting valuable reading time going through them looking for a book whose title you only vaguely remember. So, in the interests of decluttering, here’s a tip that I learned from the ever-helpful Technical Support Team at RealSam.

The most recent software update allows you to remove titles that you no longer want, or have finished listening to, from Bookshelf and My Recent Books quickly and easily. All you need to do is say ‘Find Bookshelf’ (or My Recent Books’), select the number of the title you want to remove and say ‘Delete’. Pocket will then repeat the title and check that you are sure you want to remove the book from the list, and once you’ve confirmed this, it’s gone.

I imagined it a bit like a game of non-visual Space Invaders and have just spent a happy half-hour zapping a long list of books I’ve read, and another that I know in my heart of hearts I will never get round to. But hey, if I’m wrong and regret my fit of decluttering gusto, it’s not as if it’s difficult to ask Pocket to find the titles again!

And talking about finding things, the team at RealSam is developing a new feature to help you find your Pocket if, like me, you have a habit of forgetting where you last left it; and I’ve been asked to help.

Don’t worry though, they have far better software developers than me working on it! I’ve been asked to help come up with a name.

Currently under consideration are: ‘Where’s My Pocket’, ‘Find My Pocket’, ‘Find My RealSam’ and ‘Where’s In-My-Pocket’. But no decision has been made yet and new suggestions such as ‘Hello Pocket’ and ‘Ping My Pocket’ are always welcome. If you’ve got one, or want to vote for one of the suggestions, you can let the team know by emailing RealSAM Marketing.

I for one can’t wait for this new feature, whatever it ends up being called, because it will save me hours each month, cursing my absent-mindedness as I turn the house upside-down yet again searching for My Pocket. And that will give me even more time to explore the titles on My Bookshelf!
