More Than a Library: Inside the RealSAM BookClub Community
The word “club” in RealSAM BookClub isn’t just branding. Every month, we pick a featured book and invite members to read along together — turning listening from a solitary activity into a shared one.
Why a Community Matters
Reading has always been social. Book clubs, library reading groups, and shared recommendations are part of how many people discover and enjoy books. But for blind and partially sighted readers, access to that same social side of reading hasn’t always kept pace with access to the books themselves.
RealSAM BookClub was built to close that gap — not just by giving members unlimited access to our library, but by giving them a community to read alongside.
How the Monthly Featured Book Works
Each month, we select a title from across our library — spanning RNIB’s collection, Librivox classics, and more — and feature it as our **Book of the Month**.
Members are invited to:
- Listen along at their own pace throughout the month
- Share voice reviews once they’ve finished, which other members can listen to before choosing their own next read
- Join virtual meetups to talk through the book with fellow members
- Discover recommendations from other listeners based on what they’ve enjoyed
There’s no obligation to keep pace with anyone else — you can listen whenever suits you — but for members who want it, the featured book gives a shared starting point and something to talk about.
Voice Reviews: Recommendations From Real Members
Star ratings only tell you so much. RealSAM BookClub lets members leave **voice reviews** — short spoken recommendations about a book they’ve listened to. Browsing reviews from other members, in their own words, often gives a better sense of whether a book is right for you than a written star rating alone.
