How Will RealSAM Pocket Help Me to Shop as a Blind Person?

There’s a lot of technology out there that is meant to be helpful but can actually make life more complicated. We believe we have genuinely created a product to help streamline the things you do every day.

One way in which RealSAM Pocket can help you is by assisting you on your walk to and from a shop. There are a few ways that it can do this, the first is the ‘Be My Eyes’ feature that will connect you to one of over 5 million volunteers who will see through your device and guide you.

This can also be useful in shops – an example might be you need someone to let you know the expiry date on the loaf of bread you would like to buy or to let you know the difference in price between two pairs of shoes. Just ask the phone to open ‘Be My Eyes’, and let the volunteer know how they can assist you.

Another feature is its navigation aid, which can mark out landmarks on your route to the shop. This can be anything from a bench, flower bed, or more obvious landmarks like a crossing or traffic lights. Whilst there are other navigation aids on the market, RealSam is custom-built for people with sight loss and, unlike standard navigation apps, will let you mark out routes and alert you when you get near a landmark or marked point.

If there are difficult to read labels, the built-in magnifier feature can zoom in on any small writing. No need to bring anything else with you, or download any apps, just say ‘open magnifier’ and the phone does the rest. Once open, hold the phone to the label and zoom in until it is more comfortable for you to read.

RealSam Pocket has been made to support you throughout your day-to-day life. Whether that be shopping, getting to and from the shops, or setting reminders to buy important things (just simply say, set reminder to buy milk!). It needn’t be complicated or overly expensive to do the things you normally would do, with ease.
